25 (24). Both sexes: body black, only head and mesosoma with weak dark green or deep blue lustre. Male: S4 and S5 modified, i.e. with swellings and depressions on discs, excisions on posterior margins, and/or with brushes of long dense hairs (except E. miyabei , the sterna of which are unmodified); gonostylus large, club-shaped or rectangular .............................................25. – Both sexes: at least head and mesosoma metallic green (except for E. alpigenus species-group of subgenus Smeathhalictus , the head and mesosoma of which are black, with dark green or deep blue lustre, but then head higher than wide). Male: metasomal sterna unmodified, i.e. flat, without swellings, depressions or brushes of long dense hairs, straight along posterior margins; gonostylus small, rounded triangular, trapeziform, or elongate elliptical ..................................................................... 26
