Stemonocera Rondani, 1870: 30 View in CoL . Type species: Musca cornuta Scopoli, 1772: 123 View in CoL ; Slovenia, by monotypy.

Comments: Sexually dimorphic frons, with frontal plate extended into horn-like structure in male ( Figures 1C View Figure 1 , 2A View Figure 2 , 3B View Figure 3 and 4A View Figure 4 ) and presence of only a single pair of orbital setae ( Figures 1C View Figure 1 and 3D View Figure 3 ) are the characters that distinguish this genus from other tephritids.
