Diagnostic characters. A. pinhoi sp. n. differs from other species by the combination of the following characters: Male —expanded megaseta, gonostylus with 8 apical teeth, aedeagal complex with grooved aedeagal blade not beyond the basidorsal lobe, dorsal lobe absent; Pupa —wing sheath veins and spots absent, apex of aeropyle tube club-shaped, thoracic horn with spines only in the basal outer border, dorsal pore in A IV between setae D 3 and D 5, genital sac ending beyond the second anal macrosetae.
Etymology. Named after Dr. Luiz Carlos Pinho, who collected the specimen.
Male (n = 5, unless otherwise stated): Dimensions: Total length 3.52–4.08 mm. Wing length 1.52–1.84 mm. Total length/wing length 2.21–2.32. Wing length/length of profemur 2.52–2.76.
Coloration ( Figs 61A–E View FIGURES 61 , 62A View FIGURES 62 ): wings and abdomen follow figures 61A and 61E. Legs: P I —femora with 2 bands, tibiae with 4 bands; P II —femora with 3 bands, tibiae with 3 bands; P III —femora with 1 band, tibiae with 3 bands. Ratio of bands, related tibiae and tarsomeres 1 follow table 46. Hypopygium: gonocoxite and gonostylus yellow.
Head: antenna with 14 flagellomeres; AR 1.81–1.82; apical flagellomere 111–125 µm long and subapical seta 27–31 µm long; temporals 41–45; postoculars 14; coronal triangle 121–128 µm long and base 100 µm; clypeus bearing 35–38 setae, 105–113 µm long and 95–98 µm wide; labrum with 3 setae, 114–123 µm long and 70–73 µm wide; tentorium 157–165 µm long; cibarial pump 288–290 µm long and orifice 53–55 µm from apex; palpomeres 1– 5: 55–63; 88–95; 125–135; 109–118; 210–217 µm long; palpomere 3 with sensilla capitata 31–35 µm from base.
Wing ( Fig. 61A View FIGURES 61 ): width/lenght 0.30–0.34; VR 0.84–0.91; C 1.41–1.71 mm long; Sc 0.66–0.80 mm long; m-cu 36–38 µm long and 422–510 µm from arculus; fr 503–610 µm from arculus; R 3 apex close to C; brachiolum with 3 setae; squama with 45–48 setae.
Thorax: antepronotals 13–14; humerals 8–10; prealars 21–24; supraalar 1; scutelars 33–35.
Legs ( Fig. 61 B–D View FIGURES 61 ): P I –apex of tibia 43–48 µm wide and with apical pectinated spur 55–57 µm long, spur ratio 0.55–0.59; tarsomeres 1–3 with 1 or 3 pseudospurs 55–77 µm long. P II —apex of tibia 45–46 µm wide and with 2 apical pectinated spurs 63–77 and 40–50 µm long, spur ratio 0.44–0.56 and 0.48–0.55 respectively; tarsomeres 1–3 with 6 or 7 apical pseudospurs 77–80 µm long. P III —coxa with 5 central microsetae; apex of tibia 43–45 µm wide and with 2 apical pectinated spurs 62–77 and 40–55 µm long, spurs ratio 0.45–0.58 and 0.47–0.58 respectively; tarsomeres 1–3 with 2 apical pseudospurs 66–70 µm long. Hypopygium ( Figs 62A–C View FIGURES 62 ): tergite IX with 3 central setae; anal point absent; phallapodeme 82–85 µm long; sternapodeme 105–113 µm long; gonocoxite 147–165 µm long and 100–113 µm wide; gonostylus 141–158 µm long, with 8 apical teeth; expanded megaseta; HR 1.04–1.05; HV 2.51–2.72. Aedeagal complex: grooved aedeagal blade 38.5–42.5 µm long, base 10 µm, 9/10 6 µm; dorsal lobe absent; lateral lobe and basidorsal lobe present.
Female: unknown.
Pupa (n = 2, unless otherwise stated): Dimensions: male abdomen 3.10–3.13 mm long.
Coloration ( Fig. 63A–D View FIGURES 63 ): exuviae yellow, wing sheath without spots.
Cephalothorax ( Fig. 63A, B View FIGURES 63 ): wing sheath 1.18–1.20 mm long and without veins; thoracic horn 443–446 µm long and 231–232 µm wide, lumen with hexagonal pattern only in sides, spines present on the base, apex of aeropyle tube club-shaped; thoracic comb with 9 conical teeth.
Abdomen ( Fig. 63C, D View FIGURES 63 ): shagreen as small spines in arc, present in A II–VIII; scar in A I 181–185 µm long; A IV chaetotaxy follow figure 63C, dorsal pore between setae D 3 and D 5; A VII with 4 lateral setae, LS 1 141–144 µm long; A VIII with 5 lateral setae, LS 1 77–81 µm long; anal lobe 377–383 µm long, with 2 anal macrosetae, LS 1 168–171 µm long, LS 2 209–215 µm long, outer border with spines; genital sac shorter than the anal lobe, 289–300 µm long; GS/ AL 0.77–0.78.
