Urgleptes martini View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 6–9 View FIGURES 6–9 )

Holotype female. Length, 6.4 mm; width, 2.1 mm. Form small, elliptical, elongate; integument mostly light brown, with frons, parts of genae, pronotum, sides of prosternum, metaventrite, scape to third antennomere, apical third of fourth to ninth and apex of last two antennomeres, scutellum margins, apical half of pro- and mesofemora, maculae on elytra, base of ventrite 1 and sides of ventrite 5, dark brown to fuscous. Head with frons 1.1 times wider than long, convex, with median groove extending from clypeus to posterior part of head, base curved inward and carinate, with small, contiguous, shallowly punctures, and dense light grey pubescence partially obscuring integument; postclypeus very narrow, transversely carinate, with very long erect setae at sides; anteclypeus convex, glabrous; labrum with concave apex fringed with setae and with a transverse midline of long erect setae; vertex with moderately deep middle depression, with pubescence and punctures similar to that on frons; upper eye lobes narrow, 0.4 times distance of upper interocular space; lower eye lobes 1.3 times longer than genae; antennal tubercles moderately prominent, oblique, with small rounded projection on internal margin; antennae 2.6 times body length, reaching elytral apices at apex of fifth antennomere; scape wider centrally; antennomeres with fine, dense and short pubescence, light gray and with a row of suberect setae on the inner margin of antennomeres III–IV; antennal formula (proportion) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.80, pedicel = 0.06, IV = 0.92, V = 0.80, VI = 0.72, VII = 0.76, VIII = 0.88, IX = 0.92, X = 1, XI = 1.12. Prothorax 1.5 times wider than long; sides oblique, with acute tubercle projected backward on posterior third. Pronotum convex; narrow depression adjacent to the base with row of coarse punctures; surface with moderately dense, light grey pubescence, except for a kidney-shaped band on each side of middle line with bright pale golden pubescence, extending from basal depression to apical margin, continuing on head to the upper interocular space. Prosternum narrow, length at level of coxae 0.25 times width of procoxae; prosternal process horizontal, narrow centrally, strongly expanded apically, with margin emarginate; mesoventrite moderately depressed, narrow, length 0.32 times width of mesocoxae, with scarce pubescence; mesoventral process narrow, 0.32 times width of mesocoxae, slightly concave, with straight apical margin and scarce pubescence; metaventrite moderately convex, discrimen extending to central area, with moderately dense, light grey pubescence. Scutellum semi-circular, with dark brown margins, with moderately dense, light grey pubescence. Elytra 2.1 times longer than humeral width; parallel-sided to middle, then curved and convergent toward apex; apex truncate-emarginate; disc flattened, with basal third slightly elevated near suture; base with small, shallow punctures separated by two to three times their diameter, punctures becoming shallower, more separated toward apex; with dense light grey pubescence obscuring integument and dark brown maculae on each elytron as follows: a continuous band from humerus to almost posterior third, following the elytral declivity (not contiguous to the elytral margin from a little behind the humerus) and which in the middle widens laterally with the apex of the widening in the shape of a wedge; with five other elongated maculae arranged transversely, the first three (from the external margin toward the suture) are contiguous to each other: the first maculae is 0.86 times the length of the scape and approximately 1.4 times longer than the other maculae, the base of the second maculae is located at the level of the base of the first third of the first macula and extends forward about half of its basal length; the apex of the third macula is located at the same height as the apex of the first macula and extends backwards to the height of the base of the second third of the first macula; fourth macula is slightly separated laterally from the third macula, and its base is located slightly ahead of the height of the base of the second macula and extends to just ahead of the apex of the second macula; fifth macula is located near the elytral suture, its apex is located after the basal margin of fourth macula; below these five maculae, there is an uneven trident-shaped macula, with oblique base, the left branch the longest and extends along elytral margin; central and right branches with similar length; on the basal third adjacent to the sutural margin, there are three discontinuous, elongated, and irregular maculae;. on disc area with grayish pubescence on the first half of elytra, there are three elongate and slightly distinct maculae of pale golden pubescence. Legs with pro- and mesofemora clavate, metafemora moderately widened toward apex; pro- and mesotibiae with sinus, in protibiae located on internal margin, in mesotibiae in external margin; all tibiae with moderately dense light grey pubescence, except apical half with bright gold and black suberect setae; tarsi dorsally covered with setae, first tarsomere with brush of dark setae in ventral view, second and third tarsomeres with pads with pale or whitish setae; meso- and metatarsi with first tarsomere longer than second and third together. Abdomen with moderately dense light gray pubescence, not obscuring integument; apex of last ventrite widely concave centrally, 0.4 times basal width of ventrite ( Figure 10 View FIGURES 10–11 ).

Male. Form very similar to female, except apex of last ventrite truncate and with a shallow median notch ( Figure 11 View FIGURES 10–11 ).

Diagnosis. Urgleptes martini sp. nov. is distinguished from all known Urgleptes species by the combination of the lateral band of dark brown pubescence extending from the humerus to the posterior third of the elytra, and the five elongated maculae of dark brown pubescence extending transversely from the base of the lateral band to almost the suture (united or separated laterally from each other). There are several species in Mexico and Central America that have a similar pubescent pattern on prothorax and elytra, such as Urgleptes cazieri , U. celtis , U. charillus (Bates, 1885) , U. clerulus (Bates, 1881) , U. dorotheae Gilmour, 1960 , U. euprepes , U. fasciatus (Bates, 1881) , and E. pareuprepes Gilmour, 1960. However, in all these species, between the end of the central third and the beginning of the posterior third, there is a continuous transverse band of dark brown pubescence, usually irregular and extending, obliquely or not, from the lateral margin to the suture or almost to the suture. In addition, all these species lack a well-defined continuous dark-brown lateral band from the humerus to almost the posterior third of the elytra. Of these species, U. martini sp. nov. is more similar to U. celtis . However, in addition to the differences in the pubescence pattern of the elytra mentioned above, U. celtis clearly has a narrower mesoventral process and the femora, especially meso- and metafemora, are more widened and slightly less pedunculate than in U. martini sp. nov. (See figures 12–15).

Remarks. The size of the specimens of the type series ranges from 4.0 to 6.4 mm in length and 1.3 to 2.1 mm in width. The pubescent pattern is constant, although the dark-brown pubescent maculae on the elytra may be lighter and smaller in some specimens. The integument of most of the body can vary from light brown to dark brown, as can be seen in the images of the abdomen of the female and male in figures 10 and 11.

Etymology. We dedicate this species to Martín Zurita, a young Mexican entomologist and great companion and friend of the first, third, and fourth authors, who unfortunately passed away recently. We honor his memory by doing what he loved so much.
