Urophora stylata   attacked the heads of Notobasis syriaca   , Cirsium phyllocephalu   m, Onopordon illyricum   and Echinops viscosus   , which is a new and unusual host for this species. The females that were reared from C. phyllocephalum   had a longer aculeus (2.3 ±2.9 mm; n 510) than the females reared from the other hosts (2.2±2.6 mm; n 510). Urophora stylata   is also known to infest the ¯owerheads of Galactites   and Cirsium spp.   ( Neuenschwander and Freidberg, 1983; White, 1988; White and Korneyev, 1989). Its distribution in Asia includes Israel, Afghanistan and Pakistan ( Foote, 1984).
