Dasymutilla latebalteata (Cameron)
Sphaerophthalma [ sic.] latebalteata Cameron, 1897 . Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. 19:377. Holotype female, Mexico, Jalapa , Vera Cruz (Höge) (No. 15.847) [BMNH] (examined).
Diagnosis of Female (Plate C5M). This species can be diagnosed by the following combination of characters, including coloration. The female of this species has the antennal scrobe very weakly carinate, and a genal carina is absent. The posterolateral angle of the head is not tuberculate. The mesosoma is longer than broad, and a scutellar scale is present. The integument is entirely black, and the body is not coarsely sculptured. The head and mesosoma are clothed with light golden/yellow setae, as is the disk of tergum II. Tergum II anteriorly, the posterior fringe of tergum II, and terga III to IV entirely, are clothed with black setae. Terga V to VI are clothed with pale yellow setae.
Male. Unknown.
Distribution. Mexico (Veracruz).
Remarks. This species is known only from the female. Although it keys out relatively easy, one could go wrong at couplet #61. However, setae of the dorsum are not completely concolorous. This species is known from only three specimens, all of which have been examined.
