Sphaerophthalma [ sic.] schumanni Cameron, 1895 . Biol. Cent.-Amer., Hym. 2:355. Holotype female, Mexico, Tepic (Schumann) (No. 15.844) [BMNH] (examined).
Diagnosis of Female. This species can be recognized by its coloration and several structural characteristics. It has the antennal scrobe carinate dorsally. The mesosoma is longer than broad, and a scutellar scale is absent. The pygidium is longitudinally striate. The mesosoma is clothed with predominantly black setae. However, there is a small circle of pale setae inside the black. Tergum II is clothed with predominantly black setae. The conspicuous pattern of black setae on the metasoma resembles an inverted cross. The legs are reddish, with pale setae.
Male. Unknown.
Distribution. Mexico.
Remarks. This species, known only from the female holotype, is easily identified by its very distinctive color pattern.
