Polydesmus sakalava de Saussure & Zehntner, 1897 : plate 5, fig. 22 (figure and caption only)
Polydesmus (Phymatodesmus) sakalava —de Saussure & Zehntner 1902: 95 (redescription)
Phymatodesmus sakalava — Attems 1940: 490 (list)
Phymatodesmus [ sakalava ]— Hoffman 1980: 186 (genus Phymatodesmus with one species from Madagascar tentatively assigned to family Vaalogonopodidae )
Phymatodesmus sakalava — Enghoff 2003: 623 (list, in family Dalodesmidae )
Type: 1 female (fragmented), Muséum d’histoire naturelle, Geneva.
Type locality: Madagascar, coll. Sikora.
Remarks: Franz Sikora mainly collected around the capital, Antananarivo, with a shorter, later stay in Fort Dauphin (Tolagnaro, southeast Madagascar). As the holotype of P. sakalava is female, the collection of a male will be necessary to ascertain the status and generic assignment of the species.
