Diagnosis. Mid-sized body, with numerous segments, strongly flattened. Prostomium proportionally large, with two pairs of eyes, one pair of eyespots, three antennae and two palps. Antennae inserted on anterior margin of prostomium. Palps short, completely separate. Tentacular segment dorsally reduced; two pairs of tentacular cirri. Antennae, tentacular cirri and dorsal cirri short, similar in length to parapodial lobes, rough, indistinctly articulated. Ventral cirri oval. Chaetae reduced to single dorsal capillary chaeta and thick, hooked simple chaeta, distally bidentate, with curved spur. Pharynx long, slender, curved, with an anterior tooth and trepan, surrounded by a crown of soft papillae. Reproduction by stolons.
Type-species. Parahaplosyllis brevicirra Hartmann-Schröder, 1990
Remarks. Known only from a single Australian species.
