Key to males of European Baeoneurella (male of B. mirabilis unknown)

1. Preoccipital furrow present as a narrow longitudinal cleft; mesoscutum sculptured at least on anterior third along pronoto-mesoscutal suture, or almost totaly sculptured; sculpture of T2 present at most for ½ the surface of T2; T2 at least 1.4 times as long as wide; T2 with 3 pairs of setae (paramedian and two lateral)...................................... 2

– Preoccipital furrow with sides converging medially to form a tube ( Figure 5c View Figure 5 ); mesoscutum sculptured on anterior one-fourth along pronoto-mesoscutal suture, smooth and lustrous in rest; sculpture of T2 present at least on ¾ of surface of T2; T2 at most 1.2 times as long as wide; T2 with 2 pairs of setae (paramedian and lateral).. .. B. benefica

2. Colour of T1 contrastingly lighter than T2; mesoscutum sculptured on anterior third along pronoto-mesoscutal suture, remainder smooth and lustrous; mesoscutellum longer than propodeum measured along the lateral propodeal carina; A6 – A11almost perfectly rectangular, longer than wide, with the external sides straight and parallel; A12 about 3 times as long as wide................................................ B. phaeax

– T1 – T2 concolourous, black or dark brown; mesoscutum entirely sculptured except for a small smooth and lustrous area along the scutoscutellar sulcus; mesoscutellum shorter than propodeum measured along the lateral propodeal carina; A4 shorter than A3 and A5; A6 – A11 almost quadrate, with the external sides rounded; A12 about twice as long as wide..........................................................................................
