Brachysomus hirtus View in CoL group
The differential characters of this group that clearly distinguish it from other species groups of the subgenus Brachysomus s. str. are as follows: epifrons strongly convex longitudinally, usually with deep median longitudinal sulcus; pronotum strongly sinuate at apex and base, distinctly convex at disc and sides; ventral side of aedeagus strongly sclerotized, median lobe attenuate acute or acuminate; apodemes as long as median lobe or shorter. There is some distinctive sexual dimorphism in the strongly mucronate male tibiae (especially in B. subtilis and B. mucronatus ).
Except for B. hirtus and B. fasciatus three additional species are distinguished occurring along the coastal region of Dinarides. Brachysomus subtilis and B. mucronatus inhabit the foothills near Boka Kotorska bay in Montenegro; B. dubius is known from a single specimen from Domanovice (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Formánek (1905) probably treated B. dubius as a variation of B. hirtus .
