Hemacroneuria ovalis View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURE 5 View FIGURE 6 )
Adult habitus. General color brown, with distinct lighter pattern. Head brownish with ocellar patch of similar size and shape to the above species, brownish marking on frons subquadrate ( Fig. 5b View FIGURE 5 ). Triocellate, anterior ocellus much smaller, distance between posterior ocelli half of distance from eyes. Antennae mostly brown except for darker scape and pedicel; palpi brownish. Pronotum brown with slightly lighter rugosities, lateral margins pale ( Fig. 5b View FIGURE 5 ); corners obtuse lateral margins triangularly convex. Legs mostly brown, except basal halves of femora and outer edge of tibiae pale brown, the brown portion decreasing from forelegs to hindlegs. Wing membrane brown but costal area pale, veins brown.
Male. ( Figs. 5–6 View FIGURE 5 View FIGURE 6 ). Forewing length 13.0 mm. Abdomen yellowish brown, segments 1–8 unmodified. Tergum 10 with a pair of posterolateral lower knobs laterally to sensilla basiconica patches, that are forming a pair of nearly touching narrow triangular bands, separated by a longitudinal median strip-like sclerite ( Figs. 5d View FIGURE 5 , 6a, c View FIGURE 6 ). Paraprocts recurved and generally triangular, apex slightly outcurved ( Figs. 5c View FIGURE 5 , 6a, c View FIGURE 6 ). Hammer small, oval-shaped and covered by indistinct granules, positioned in the medial area of sternum 9 ( Fig. 6b View FIGURE 6 ).
Aedeagus ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 d-e), not completely everted, flattened during eversion, with lateral view difficult to observe. Membranous, sac generally quadrate in shape, but apex enlarged and bilobed. Basal portion with many longitudinal and transverse wrinkles but scales or microtrichia lacking. The lateral lobes of apex nearly quadrate, about ½ width of the base. Two, partially fused and densely wrinkled median brownish areas present between the lateral lobes, and an elongate clavate structure extends forward, ca. 2x as long as the lateral lobe.
Female. Unknown.
Type material. Holotype male ( NMP): China: Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou City, Mt. West Tianmushan , “Tree Kings” area, mixed forest with dominant Cryptomeria , 30°20.3–6’ N 119°25.8 –26.3’E, 1060–1150 m, 26.VI– 2.VII.2017, leg. J. Hájek & J. Růžička.
Etymology. The specific name refers to the shape of the male hammer.
Distribution. China (northern Zhejiang Province).
Affinities. The male of the new species can be easily distinguished from congeners by the combination of less contrasting color pattern, the small and oval-shaped hammer, and lack of medial membranous area on tergum 10.
Remarks. The entire body of the holotype is filled with cysts of a parasite, probably an entomoparasitic nematode ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 a–d, 6a–b). Similarly, but much less numerous number of cysts can be also observed in the type specimens of H. elongata ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 .b–d, 2a, c, 4a–b).
