Description. Female. Body length 4.5–5.3 mm, wing length 4.1–4.8 mm (n= 9).

Color. Tegula brown or yellowish brown translucent. Posterior margins of metasomal terga narrowly yellowish brown or reddish brown translucent.

Pilosity. T1 ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 C) medially with dense simple and short hairs. Basal hair bands generally absent, but sometimes slightly present on T2 or T2–T3. Apical fimbriae on metasomal terga absent.

Structure. Head wider than long; head length/width ratio 0.90–0.94 (n= 10). Interocellar distance subequal to ocellocular distance. Frons and paraocular area dull, reticulate-punctate. Supraclypeal area ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B) shiny, with moderately dense PP; IS with weak tessellation. Clypeal length1.2x distance between lower rim of antennal socket and upper margin of clypeus; with sparse PP on upper 1/3, and with sparse larger shallow PP on lower 2/3; IS with weak tessellation on upper 1/3, and smooth on lower 2/3. Basal area of labrum 2.4x as wide as long; distal process without lateral projection; keel of distal process moderately broad, apically pointed in frontal view. Scape length 0.5–0.6 mm (n= 10). Mesoscutum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C, D) dull, with dense PP and IS with distinct tessellation on the entire surface. Mesoscutellal ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 E) sculpture similar to mesoscutum. Mesepisternum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 F) shiny, with very weak transverse rugulae and sparse PP on upper area, and with weak rugulae on lower area. Propodeal dorsum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 O) 0.8x mesoscutellum, and 1.2x as long as metanotum, and with longitudinal ridges on the entire surface, dorsomedial ridges present on basal 2/3, dorsomedially with weak tessellation on apical margin; propodeal side weakly rugulose, with distinct tessellation; lateral slope and shield with weak tessellation. Inner hind tibial spur ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 P) with 3–4 teeth (n= 10). T1 ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 C) basally with distinct lineolation, and medially with dense fine PP. T2 basally and apically with very weak lineolation, medially without lineolation. T3–T4 similar lineolation with T2 on the entire surface.

Male. As in female except as follows. Body length 4.4–4.9 mm, wing length 4.0– 4.3 mm (n= 5).

Color. Mandible medially yellow; all tarsi yellowish brown.

Pilosity. T1 ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 D) medially with dense simple and short hairs. S4–S5 posterolaterally with fine branched hairs, moderately dense and long (as in Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B).

Structure. Head wider than or nearly as wide as long; head length/width ratio 0.95–1.0 (n= 7). Supraclypeal area shiny. Clypeal length 1.3x distance between lower rim of antennal socket and upper margin of clypeus; IS without tessellation on the entire surface. Basal area of labrum 3x as wide as long; basal elevation and distal process absent. Scape length 0.4 mm (n= 6), F2 1.4x F1. Mesoscutum shiny; ISwith weak tessellation on the entire surface. Mesepisternum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 L) with sparse PP on upper area, and with dense PP on lower area; IS nearly smooth on the entire surface. Propodeal dorsum ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 M) 0.7x mesoscutellum, and 1.3x as long as metanotum; dorsomedially smooth apically. Basitibial plate of hind legs without carina marginally. T2 without lineolation on the entire surface. S7–S8 ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 H): S7 with short and narrow median process; S8 without median process. Genitalia as in Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 E–G. Gonobasal ventral arm ring-shaped, and not connected to each other at apical ends; bottom slightly depressed. Gonocoxite smooth in dorsal view. Gonostylus taper apically in lateral view, with dense and long hairs on outer margin on dorsal view. Retrorse lobe ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 G) moderately long and narrow, and with moderately dense short hairs on its surface.

Remarks. Within the sexstrigatum -group, this new species is similar to Lasioglossum (Evylaeus) yonaguniense sp. nov. and L. (E.) zipangu Ebmer & Sakagami from the southern Ryukyus. The former has been found from the same locality with this species. For the differences among the three species, see the key. So far as the first author surveyed in Yonaguni-jima, this species was mainly found in pasture areas or around the dry subtropical forest in low mountain areas.

Etymology. The specific name of this new species, “donan”, is derived from an alias name of Yonagunijima, the type locality.

Distribution. Japan (southern Ryukyus: Yonaguni-jima).

Flight records. Female: March to May. Male: April to May.

Flower records. The flowering plants visited by this species were three species in two families listed as follows. Brassicaceae gen. sp. Rosaceae : Rhaphiolepis indica var. umbellata ; Rubus sp.

Type material. Holotype (Type No. ELKU 3306): female, Mt. Kurabu-dake, Yonaguni-jima, Okinawa Pref., Ryukyus, JAPAN, 20. iii. 2005 (R. Murao leg., RMPC). Paratypes: [Ryukyus: JAPAN] Yonaguni-jima, Okinawa Pref.: 5 females and 7 males, Mantabaru, 29. iv. 2004 (T. Mita, RMPC), 1. v. 2004 (T. Mita, RMPC), 21. iii. 2005 (R. Murao, RMPC); 2 females, same locality as the holotype, 28. iv. – 5. v. 2004 (T. Mita, RMPC); 1 female, Mt. Urabu-dake, 20. iii. 2005 (R. Murao, RMPC); 1 female, near Mt. Inbi-dake, 20. iii. 2005 (R. Murao, RMPC); 1 female, Sonai, 20. iii. 2005 (R. Murao, RMPC).

Type depository. The holotype and all paratypes (12 females and seven males) are deposited in ELKU.
