Diagnosis. Blastobasis spinisetosa is similar to B. inouei Moriuti, 1987 in the male genitalia, but it can be separated from the latter by the proximal flange bearing an extremely long seta and a row of much short spine-like setae on the outer margin, and the ventral part of the valva with distal process pointed apically. In B. inouei , the proximal flange bears a row of almost equally elongate spine-like setae on the outer margin, and the distal process of the ventral part of the valva is narrowly rounded apically.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 4−13 ) forewing length 4.5–6.5 mm. Head: Brown, scales tipped with grayish white. Antenna with scape brown on dorsal surface, tipped with grayish white partially, grayish white on ventral surface; pecten dark brown; flagellum dark brown, ciliated on ventral surface in male, first flagellomere dilated and notched in male. Labial palpus dark brown except some scales tipped with pale gray on outer surface, pale yellow on inner surface; third segment shorter than second, gradually narrowed from base to pointed apex. Haustellum dark brown.
Thorax: Nota and tegula dark brown, part scales tipped with pale gray. Forewing brown, with grayish white tipped scales from near base becoming denser to basal 2/5, forming a grayish white fascia extending from basal 2/5 below costa to dorsum, with dense dark brown scales along its outer margin, with grayish white tipped dark brown scales on distal 3/5; discocellular and tornal spots black; fringe brown, intermixed with dark brown scales tipped with grayish white. Hindwing and fringe grayish brown. Legs with dorsal surface grayish white; ventral surface dark brown, part scales tipped with grayish white; all tibiae and tarsomeres grayish white at apex.
Abdomen: Male genitalia ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 14−17 ) with uncus wide at base, narrowed to middle, parallel-sided from middle to distal 1/4, then triangularly narrowed to pointed apex, slightly curved ventrad, sparsely setose. Gnathos with posterior margin slightly arched, with one or two small denticles medially ( Figs. 17 View FIGURES 14−17 a-b). Dorsal part of valva with costal process narrow, almost uniform, rounded apically, with a sclerotized ridge from above costa extending ventrad to fuse with outer edge of proximal flange; proximal flange with a cluster of hairlike setae at base on ventral margin, with a row of short spine-like setae on outer margin except one just above ventro-apical corner extremely much longer than others, membrane above proximal flange with a sub-rectangular area bearing dense microtrichiae. Ventral part of valva with basal 1/5 broad, broadly rounded on ventral margin, narrowed from basal 1/5 to 3/5; dis- tal 2/5 produced to a spine-like process, curving inward, setose, pointed apically; sacculus almost uniform, setose on distal 3/5. Juxta membranous. Vinculum a wide band. Phallus nearly as long as valva, curved ventrad medially, almost uniform from base to basal 3/5, gradually narrowed from basal 3/5 to slightly pointed apex; internal sclerite curved medially; anellus bearing cone-like setae at middle, bearing one to three cone-like setae sub-apically. Female genitalia ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 24−26 ) with apophyses posteriores approximately 3 times length of apophyses anteriores. Eighth tergum with a darkly pigmented longitudinal median streak. Intersegmental membrane posterior to seventh segment with an oval cushion-shaped process of dense microtrichiae flanking ostium. Seventh tergum nearly straight on posterior margin, sternum broadly concave medially on posterior margin. Ductus bursae approximately 4 times length of corpus bursae; internal wall with overlapping platelets on anterior 1/4, becoming denser toward corpus bursae; ductus seminalis arising from ductus bursae proximal to ostium. Corpus bursae oval, with dense granules; signum arising from near posterior 1/3 of corpus bursae, horn-shaped, with a sclerotized sub-trapezoidal (from lateral view) dentate basal plate.
Distribution. China (Chongqing, Fujian, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Shanxi, Tianjin, Zhejiang).
Etymology. The specific epithet of this species is derived from the Latin spin- and setosus (bearing spine-like setae), referring to the proximal flange with a row of spine-like setae on the outer margin.
