Diagnosis.
Among the Gryllinae genera, this new genus described here is average sized with a black coloration. It possesses tympana on outside tibia and well developed forewing with mirror. Two filiform hairs on foretibia are its unique feature. General appearance is close to that of Vietacheta , but the ectoparamere of the new genus is little wider than the lateral lobes of epiphallus in lateral view, while the ectoparamere of Vietacheta is covered by the lateral lobes of epiphallus. The genitalia are also similar to that of Phonarellus , but the epiphallus of Phonarellus does not possess notch in middle. Compared with Gymnogryllus , the new genus is smaller in size. Furthermore, the ectoparamere of Gymnogryllus is longer, while that of the new genus is shorter than the lateral lobe of epiphallus. Its genitalia are also similar to those of Apterosvercus , while the latter has no tympana or wings. Molecular results supported the validation of the new genus Fodigryllus He gen. nov. ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Descriptions see species part.
Etymology. The genus name is derived from Latin Fodi- (dig) + gryllus, which refers to its burrowing habit.
