Lactistomyia dimidiata (Bellardi) View in CoL

Hybos dimidiata Bellardi, 1861:197 View in CoL (preoccupied by Hybos dimidiatus Walker, 1852 View in CoL ) Hybos sequens Melander, 1902:249 View in CoL ; Bezzi, 1909:305;

Lactistomyia dimidiata View in CoL ; Melander, 1928:35; Smith, 1967:14 (catalogue) Lactistomyia sequens View in CoL ; Curran, 1931:7 (key); Smith, 1967:14 (catalogue).

The type of L. dimidiata View in CoL could not be obtained and no other specimen of this species is known. Melander (1902) redescribed and renamed Hybos dimidiata View in CoL as Hybos sequens View in CoL . Later Melander (1928) transferred those species to Lactistomyia View in CoL based on R4+5 and M1 veins convergent although this species do not have a remarkably curved hind tibia, one of the principal characteristics in which Melander based his genus.

The original description ( Bellardi, 1861) is poorly informative. L. dimidiata probably belongs to a species group lacking strongly curved hind tibia, together L. lepida and L. paranaensis , based on description made by Melander (1902), and could be inserted in couplet 2 of the identification key above.
