Differential Diagnosis. Sharing with P. ankaratra and P. duplicata the shape of the lateral margin of the pronotum, which is "dual rimmed," having an extra ridge above the true (denticulate) lateral margin. Differentiated from P. duplicata in larger size (ca. 1.75 mm vs. 1.45 mm), darker color, more elongate elytra, and slightly differently shaped pronotum. Differentiated from P. ankaratra by slightly larger size, darker color, and longer maxillary palpi (palpus length/head width ca. 0.86 vs. 0.54 mm). The aedeagus of P. elongata differs distinctively from that of the compared species.

Description. Size: holotype (length/width, mm): body (length to elytral apices) 1.93/0.80; head width 0.53; pronotum 0.43/0.71, PA 0.54, PB 0.63; elytra 1.21/0.80. Dorsum dark brown; maxillary palpi light brown to testaceous, distal mere acuminate, apex darker.

Head with eyes mod. large, in dorsal aspect ca.8–9 convex facets in longest series. Ocelli indistinct, round small shining, each located at base of very shallow oblique interocular fovea. Frons effacedly microreticulate, weakly shining, finely punctate, ca. 1xef on disc, finer anteriorly, interstices ca. 1–5xpd. Clypeus effacedly microreticulate, punctures similar to finest punctures of frons. Labrum dull, length subequal that of clypeus, apicomedially weakly emarginate, anterior margin narrowly upturned; laterally fringed with very short arcuate setae. Maxillary palpi moderately long, combined lengths of meres slightly less than width of head (ratio ca. 30/ 35); ratios of meres 2–4 ca. 13/8/9. Mentum deeply moderately densely punctulate, submentum sparsely finely punctulate, interstices shining.

Pronotum broad, anterior margin arcuate, ca. median 1/2 with narrow hyaline border. Anterior angles obtuse. Sides weakly rounded, widest at about midlength, weakly attenuate and sinuate behind middle, in lateral view margin with single rim. Posterior angle obtuse. Discal relief very finely sparsely punctate, punctures shallow, ca. 0.1xef, interstices weakly shining, dull, 3–6xpd; anterior and posterior impressions moderately deep, punctures much deeper and much larger than those on relief, some confluent, forming short transverse rows, each puncture with anterior margin extended posteriorly as narrow ridge, dividing puncture into a pair of two smaller punctures each of which ca. 1–2xef, short recumbent seta arising from posterior extreme of dividing ridge. Lacking impression at each posterior angle. Sculpture laterally subrugulose, dull, with some divided punctures.

Elytra weakly shining, attenuate posteriorly, sides arcuate, explanate margins narrow, distinct from shoulder for 3/4 of length, apices separately rounded. Ten-seriate punctate, very shallowly, if at all, striate-impressed, punctures on disc small, round, ca. 1–2xef, interstices ca. 2xpd, anterior rim of each puncture with minute granule and minute recumbent seta, punctures becoming much smaller and shallower over posterior declivity; intervals ca. 3–4xpd, each with unilinear row of small punctures, much smaller than serial punctures, anterior margin of each with minute granule and short recumbent seta.

Metaventrite with moderately deep, elongate oval impression in post 1/2; midlongitudinal carina between anterior extreme of groove and mesoventral intercoxal process. Metaventrite and abdominal ventrites 1–4 hydrofuge pubescent. Ventrites 5 and 6 elongate, effacedly microreticulate, shining. Ventrite 5 hydrofuge pubescent in anterior 1/4, posterior 1/2 with very sparse, long pubescence in transverse band. Ventrite 6 very sparsely pubescent in transverse band across posterior 1/2. Last ventrite very sparsely pubescent, free margin markedly arcuate; last tergite with moderately wide apicomedian notch, and bearing moderately long setae.

Legs moderately short, bicolored, basal 2/3 of femora dark brown, remainder and tarsi light brown; femora moderately broad, metafemora width/metatarsus length ratio ca. 10/20; combined lengths of metatibia and metatarsus slightly greater than width of head (ratio ca. 45/37), ratio of lengths of metatibia/metatarsus ca. 28/20. Basal 3 protarsomeres, in male, with pad of suction setae. Wings fully developed.

Males and females similar in size: males ca. 1.79–1.94 mm; females 1.73–2.00 mm.

Aedeagus length ca. 0.61 mm; gonopore bearing process very short, barely extending beyond distal piece; distal piece subtriangular in ventral view, trilobate in lateral view; main piece in ventral view straight or nearly so, parallel sided or nearly so in distal 1/2, in lateral view markedly arcuate, tapering apically; parameres very short, each with two setae ( Fig. 142).

Etymology. Named in reference to the elongate maxillary palpi and elongate elytra.

Distribution. Currently known from the type locality and several localities nearby, at Manjakatompo Station in eastern central Madagascar; elevation 1750–2073 meters ( Fig. 303 View FIGURES 303 – 306 ).
