Distribution. This species-rich genus is distributed across North, Central and South America where it, with 76 described species, dominates the Saprininae subfamily. Two additional species of the subgenus Neosaprinus Bickhardt, 1909 have been described from the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions, respectively (see below for details) ( MAZUR 1997).
