Ecology. Epilithic on horizontal rock substrate just above low water mark; mainly in pools, but some specimens exposed at low tide; one collection at 22 m.
Indian Ocean distribution. Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius (Dickie, 1974: 191, as Myriocladia capensis ; Jadin, 1935: 159, as Myriocladia capensis ; Børgesen, 1952: 16–21, figures 8, 9, pls I, II), Rodrigues (this paper).
Note. Børgesen (1942: 17–19, figure 7 View FIGS ) initially recorded T. requienii from Mauritius. In a later publication ( Børgesen, 1951: 8) he referred his record to the newly described T. jadinii Børgesen , in which he also included the record of T. lubrica by Jadin (1935: 162). According to Abbott (cited in Silva et al., 1996: 130; Abbott, 1999: 95) the type of T. jadinii is representative of T. lubrica . The placement of the antheridia as illustrated for T. jadinii ( Børgesen, 1951: 19, figure 6 View FIGS ), only occupying subterminal cells of the assimilatory cortical filaments, is however at odds with the condition as described for T. lubrica by Abbott (1999: 95–96). Further research and re-examination of the original Børgesen and Jadin collections is needed, therefore, to confirm the presence of T. lubrica in Mauritius.
