scientific name

Trimuricea cuddalorensis Fernando, 2011
status

Trimuricea cuddalorensis Fernando, 2011 (species status uncertain)

Trimuricea cuddalorensis Fernando, 2011: 46–47 , pl. 23, fig. 1–1c (Cuddalore); Fernando et al. 2017: 99, pl. 44, fig. 1–1c (Cuddalore).

Opinion: This species does occur in the region.

Justification:

Literature analysis: The publications of Fernando (2011) and Fernando et al. (2017) describe the same material, but without more detailed descriptions and larger illustrations of the sclerites it would be difficult to recognise this species. The figured thornscales bear some resemblance to those in several known species, but the description says that spindles appear to be absent, whereas they are present in all known species. The description says branch anastomoses are infrequent and limited to the centre of the colony, but enhancement of their image shows this does not seem to be the case.
