Paracis ceylonensis ( Thomson & Henderson, 1905) View in CoL

Acis ceylonensis Thomson & Henderson, 1905: 299–300 , pl. 6, fig. 3 (off Galle).

Opinion: This species does occur in the region but its true identity is uncertain.

Justification:

This Indian record may be valid: Thomson & Simpson, 1909: 232–233 (Ganjam coast; off Puri; Andaman Sea).

Literature analysis: This species was first described under the genus Acis from off southern Sri Lanka but the sclerites were not illustrated. It was subsequently reported by Thomson & Simpson (1909) from the Ganjam coast, off Puri in the Bay of Bengal and also the Andaman Sea, but again without sclerite figures. As Thomson was one of the authors of both reports it is assumed they probably refer the same species. Kükenthal (1924) transferred the species to the genus Paracis but as no adequate description exists it remains unrecognisable. Rao & Devi (2003) just list the species.
