Body elongate; greatest body depth contained 4.1 to 4.5, head depth 5.0 to 5.3, caudal peduncle depth 12.7 to 13.8 times in SL; head length 3.4 to 3.6, anal-fin base length 10.1 to 10.8, adipose-fin base length 4.1 to 4.4, and maxillary-barbel length 0.7 to 0.8 in SL; snout length 2.0 to 3.8, horizontal orbital diameter 3.7 to 3.9, and least interorbital width 3.5 to 4.0 in HL. Mouth subterminal; dentigerous tooth plates present in both premaxilla and dentary. Dorsal fin with I,7, pectoral fin with I,13, pelvic fin with 7, and anal fin with 9-10 rays. Ground color silvery; several longitudinal series of dark-brown blotches on flank. Hyaline fins ( Graça, Pavanelli, 2007).
Maximum standard length. 240.0 mm ( Graça, Pavanelli, 2007).
Distribution. Paraná-Paraguay system.
