( Figs 9, 10 View FIGURES 9 – 11. 9 )

Poecilosoma fontanieri Lucas , in Castelnau, 1857: 178, pl. 11, fig. 6.

Poecilopeplus fontanieiri View in CoL ; Monné, 1994: 24 (cat., error).

Poecilopeplus fontanieri View in CoL ; Monné, 2005: 633 (cat.); Quintino et al., 2010: 366 (distr.).

Type locality. Colombia, Santa Marta. ( MNHN). Geographical distribution. Colombia, Venezuela.

Poecilosoma fontanieri Lucas , in Castelnau, 1857 was described on page 178, at the same time as Poecilosoma haemoptera Lucas , in Castelnau, 1857 and figured in the same plate (figures 6 and 5, respectively). Poecilosoma haemopterus was currently registered in catalogues and checklist. Monné (1994:24) listed P. fontanieri for the first time in a catalogue, and the species was omitted by Gemminger & Harold (1872), Aurivillius (1912) and Blackwelder (1946). Lucas described and illustrated a male, here we describe the female.

Female. Head, antennae, thorax, legs and abdomen black, elytra orange red with four tranverse black patches, basal and apical from lateral sides to suture, second and third not quite extending to suture.

Antennae reaching the middle of elytra, antennomeres 1-6 filiform, 7-11 serrated, Prothorax with median lateral tubercles moderately projected, surface uniformely and moderately punctate. Apices of elytra subtruncated, with a minute conical projection at sutural margin. Surface rugosely punctate at base, punctures more sparse to apex. Fifth urotegite and urosternite transversely truncated.

Measurements, in mm. male/female. Total length, 26.3/24.5; prothorax length, 6.2/5.0; prothorax width, 9.0/ 7.5; elytral length, 19.3/18.3; humeral width, 9.6/9.4.

Geographical distribution. Colombia and Venezuela.

Specimens examined. COLOMBIA, female (MNHN). VENEZUELA, Caracas, male (MNRJ).
