Newman (1840) described Ischnotes View in CoL without comparison with other genera based on a single species, I. cylindraceus View in CoL , from Adelaide, Australia. Thomson (1864: 212; 1865: 437) listed Ischnotes View in CoL in his “8e Division Ancyloceritae,” which today is the tribe Trachyderini View in CoL , subtribe Ancylocerina . Pascoe (1859: 56) described a second species, I. bakewellii View in CoL , without locality and McKeown (op.cit.) listed the following locality in his catalogue: Melbourne, Victoria.

In Ischnotes View in CoL the distal region of the 8th sternite in females lacks a brush of modified setae. As a result of the absence of this character we propose the transference of this taxon from Trachyderini View in CoL , Ancylocerina to incertae sedis of Cerambycinae .
