Omalaspis curvilineata Ros-Farré & Pujade-Villar n. sp.

( Figs 1b View FIGURE 1 , 2b View FIGURE 2 , 9a View FIGURE 9 & 10a View FIGURE 10 )

Type material. (2 ♀) HOLOTYPE female ( CAS) 30-V-1927, Marin Country, Phoenix Lake , CA, ( USA), H. H. Kieffer coll. PARATYPE female ( CNCI) 22/VII/1978, Kouchibouguac National Park . New Brunswick, S. J. Miller leg, Code-73255 .

Diagnosis. Omalaspis curvilineata n. sp. is easily distinguished from other Omalaspis species by the interfoveal line, in lateral view being very curved and projected dorsally. This character is unique within the genus, moreover the scutellar foveae are strongly rugose and posterior margin of scutellum is incised.

Description. Length. Female 3.5 to 4.7 mm.; male unknown.

Coloration. Head and metasoma black. Mesosoma black except mesopleuron partly or totally brown. Antennae and legs brown. Wing membrane hyaline. Veins of wing brown.

Head. Frons coriaceous, central area rugose. Frontal carinae present but not well defined. Lateral frontal carinae present, space between them and compound eyes with transverse carinae. Ocelli quite prominent. Vertex quite incised, in dorsal view coriaceous, strongly rugose. Vertex posterior and occiput coriaceous. Genae sharply marginate and expanded, coriaceous, and with strong transverse carinae.

Antenna. Filiform. Antennal formula: 4(3.5): 2(2): 7(2): 6(2): 6(2): 5(2): 5(2): 5(2): 5(2): 5(2): 4(2): 4(2): 8(2).

Mesosoma. Lateral surface of pronotum coriaceous, dorsally with small transverse carinae, basally with strong transverse carinae. Mesoscutum coarsely coriaceous. Parascutal sulcus shiny. Median ridge complete, sometimes weak posteriorly, antero-admedian lines conspicuous, nearly parallel, reaching 1/3 mesoscutum length. Median mesoscutal furrow shiny, with strong transverse carinae inside. Notauli wide and with transverse carinae posteriorly, narrow and smooth anteriorly. Mesosoma, in lateral view, slightly curved. Mesopleuron sculptured anteriorly, smooth posteriorly. Scutellum 0.72 scutum length. Interfoveal line strong, prominent and curved upwards, nearly reaching posterior margin of scutellum. Scutellar foveae coarsely rugose. Scutellar disc rugose on anterior 2/3, transversally carinate posteriorly. Lateral scutellar margins slightly confluent, posterior margin of scutellum incised, narrow.

Wing. Radial cell 2.2 longer than wide. R2 straight, slightly curved dorsally.

Distribution. Nearctic, USA (California and New Brunswick).

Etymology: The name refers to a unique morphological character only present in this species: the curved interfoveal line.
