Irochrotus maculiventris (Germar, 1839)

Material examined (n=1): loc. OL3 (40°43′58.72″N, 16°54′28.06″E) 05.X.2020

Distribution:Widespread in Southern Europe ( Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Spain, former Yugoslavia, Turkey (European part)), North Africa ( Algeria, Libya) and Turkey (Asian part).

Remarks: Servadei (1967) reported this species only in Sicily (Southern Italy), while I. lanatus was reported for Apulia (Southern Italy). However, it is possible that the two species were confused as Göllner-Scheiding (2006) suggested for the eastern records of I. lanatus by Pallas (1773). In fact, I. lanatus has a Ponto Mediterranean distribution, whereas a Mediterranean distribution has been reported for I. maculiventris . Moreover, Lupoli (2017) suggested that this species is spread in arid habitats, which are common in Apulia. In particular, the specimen here reported was found on the wall of a rural building, sourronded by arable fields, olive groves and near a small oak forest.
