Bathophilus vaillanti ( Zugmayer, 1911) View in CoL was described on the basis of a single specimen collected off Portugal (North-eastern Atlantic), but Morrow (1979) indicates the Mediterranean (probably a printing mistake) as distributional range of the species. Reconsideration of this record is necessary since either antecedent ( Barnett & Gibbs 1968) or successive works ( Gibbs 1984) mention the Mediterranean as part of the geographical distribution of the species.
