Remarks: Harman & McMaham (1975) studying animals of North America and Surinam, nullified the differences between the subspecies P. longiseta leidyi and P. l. bidentata uniting them under P. leidyi , which they consider to be different from P. longiseta . Rodriguez (1987) detected a mixture of characteristics of leidyi and longiseta in specimens from Spain and France, concluding that they are just forms of a same species. The interpretation of P. longiseta as a polytypical species (Rassenkreis) was previously made by Marcus (1943) and accepted by Sperber (1948) who, nothwithstanding, diagnosed 4 subspecies which she then ignored ( Sperber, 1958). It is neccessary to mention that the Brazilian animals ( Marcus, 1943) and ours have an “anterior dorsal organ” which was not seen in specimens from other regions.
