Ovipennis thomasi Černý, 2009 View in CoL

( Figs 13, 14 View FIGURES 1–15 , 23 View FIGURES 20–23 , 31 View FIGURES 30–32 )

Ovipennis thomasi Černý View in CoL in Černý & Pinratana, 2009: 101, fig. 201; Volynkin et al. 2019: 72; S.-Y. Huang 2021; misidentification ( O. hanae sp. n.).

Type material examined. Holotype ( Figs 13 View FIGURES 1–15 , 31 View FIGURES 30–32 ): female, printed label “N. THAILAND | Chiang Mai, Fang, Doi Ang Khang , 1425m, 29°54′11″ N, 99°2′32″ E, 11.–15.IX.2007, leg. T. Ihle |” / printed label “Genitalpräparat GoogleMaps Heterocera Nr. 33.813 Museum WITT München” / red printed label “ HOLOTYPE Ovipennis thomasi Karel ČERNÝ, 2009 ” ( MWM / ZSM). Paratypes: 2 females, same data as holotype / PARATYPE Ovipennis thomasi Karel ČERNÝ, 2009 ( CKC).

Additional material examined. THAILAND: 1 male, Lampang, Chae Son NP, 1496m, 18°51.080′N 99°26.016′E, 10. V.2008, K. Černý leg., gen. prep. No.: AV7300 ( CKC) GoogleMaps ; 2 females, Lampang, Chae Son NP, 1496m, 18°51′23″N 99°22′E, 1. VI.2005, K. Černý leg., gen. prep. No.: AV7301 ( CKC) GoogleMaps ; 1 male, Mt. Doi Phahompok , 14 km NW Fang, 1700m, 16.X.2000, local collector leg. ( CKC) ; 1 male, Changwat Nan, 30 km E of Pua , 1700m, 22–23.IX.1999, A. Szabó & Z. Czere leg., gen. prep. No.: MWM 31.744 ( MWM / ZSM) .

Remarks. (1) In the original description ( Černý & Pinratana 2009), a male and a female specimen with the same label data as in the holotype were cited as paratypes. However, the sex of one of them was erroneously determined by the authors and both specimens are in fact females. (2) The book by Černý & Pinratana (2009) is supplemented with a CD containing a PDF file of an updated version of the original book layout. In this file, an additional male specimen from Lampang Province was added to the type series of O. thomasi . However, only the specimens listed in the original hard copy of the book can be considered as secondary types and the aforementioned specimen is to be treated as a non-type additional specimen examined.

Diagnosis. The forewing length is 8.0–9.0 mm in males and 7.4–9.0 mm in females. Sexual dimorphism is limited: the male has a pale ochreous hindwing with a diffuse dark grey terminal fascia stretching from the apex to the anal angle, whereas the female hindwing is blackish with ochreous basal area and anal margin. The species is superficially similar to O. binghami , the detailed comparison between the two taxa is provided above in the diagnosis of the latter species.

Distribution. Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Lampang, and Nan Provinces).
