Subgenus Zaracarus Southcott, 1995 View in CoL
Type species: Erythraeus (Zaracarus) lancifer Southcott, 1995 .
Diagnosis. Adult. As for the genus. No characters were detected allowing a general separation of reared postlarval instars of the subgenus Zaracarus from postlarval instars of the subgenus Erythraeus .
Deutonymph. As for the genus (See comment above).
Larva (after Southcott 1995, with modifications by Fain & Ripka 1998). Typical Erythraeus larva. Anterior sensilla below 50 µm in length, with expanded base, situated in pouch-like structures. Basis of setae AL smooth and thin or setulose and widened. Two or three basifemoral setae on legs I–III.
Distribution. Europe, Asia and Africa.
