Female (Holotype and three paratypes). Gnathosoma ( Figs. 5A, B View FIGURE 5 ) — 79 (75–80) long, 78 (77–80) wide, mostly covered by anterior margin of prodorsum. Peritreme arch-like with 5 pairs of segments. Tegmen and protegmen covered with longitudinal striae. Triangular projections present at anterior lateral margin of protegmen. Rostral tip with two pairs of adoral setae, or1 and or2. Setae n present on gnathobase, being smooth and filiform. Palpal femur 36 (33–38) long and 36 (32–38) wide. Setae dF fanlike with truncated tip, setae dG, l”G and v”F fanlike, setae v’F straplike with pointed tip. All these setae roughly barbed. Setae dT and l”T rod like and roughly barbed. Setae l’T smooth and filiform. Palp claw with one basal tooth. Palpal tarsi dorsally with two comb-like eupathidia, amc and sul, ventrally with setae ul’ and ul”, and solenidion ω.

Idiosoma ( Figs. 4A, B View FIGURE 4 ). Dorsum ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ) — Subhexagonal in dorsal aspect, 255 (250–258) long, 199 (195–205) wide, with two dorsal shields. Propodonotal shield 119 (113–125) long, bearing small eyes and four pairs of lateral fanlike setae (vi, ve, sci and sce) and about 21 pairs of median platelike setae, being polygonal and granulate ( Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 ). Hysteronotal shield with 6 pairs of lateral setae (c1, d2, e2, f2, h1 and h2). Setae c1, d2, e2 and h1 fanlike; setae f2 and h2 straplike, and with about 27 pairs of median setae, similar to those on propodonotal shield. Setae c2 fan-like, situated ventrally on oval sclerotized plates. Venter ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ) — Setae ag1–ag3 present, smooth and filiform. Setae g1 and g2 present, filiform. Setae ps1– ps3 present, setae ps1 and ps3 filiform, setae ps2 fan-like. Coxal setation: 2 - 1 - 2 - 2. Coxal setae filiform and smooth except for setae 3b, fan-like.

Type materials. Holotype female (CUMZ-AC-2009.07). Buang-Chawak Park, Supan Buri Province ; ex. litter under Flacourtia sp. , 3 m. from pond edge; 28. III. 2003; leg. M. Fuangarworn (Field no. MF 2003-56). Three female paratypes (CUMZ-AC-2009.08 – 10) with same data as the holotype. Type deposition – The holotype and two paratypes are deposited in the Acarology collection at Chulalongkorn University Museum of Natural History , Bangkok, Thailand. One female paratype will be deposited in the Acarology collection at the Ohio State University, Columbus, USA.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Mrs. Vatana Charanasri, former acarologist of the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, for her contribution to Acarology in Thailand.

Remarks. Currently, the genus Samsinakia includes seven species described from the Philippines, India, Madagascar, Rawanda, Zaire and Mexico ( Fain 1980; Fain & Bochkov 2001; Bochkov & Klimov 2005). This is the first report of this genus in Thailand and brings the world fauna to eight species. S. charanasriae n. sp. is similar to S. theodoridis (Samsinak, 1959) in having the following characters: Coxal setation is 2 - 1 - 2 - 2; setae e2 (= setae l3) are present; and guard setae ft on tarsi I is fan-like. However, the former can be readily distinguished from the latter by, among others, the presence of fan-like dorsolateral setae (vs. cylindricoconical in S. theodoridis ) and the presence of one basal tooth on the palpal claw (vs. three in S. theodoridis ).
