Diagnosis. This species is easily recognized by having the dorsal margin of harpe strongly incurved anteriorly, the aedeagal dorsal valve robust with wide lobes and the apical portion of aedeagal ventral valve narrow, slightly curved laterad.

Description. Head. Mandible with two distal teeth. Median clypeal lobe trapezoidal, with one angulate tooth; median clypeal carina high in profile, complete or nearly so, straight in profile or nearly so. Frons weakly coriaceous, punctures large and sparse. Vertex crest weakly incurved. Dorsal pronotal area with anterior margin ecarinate. Tergal process submedian, with tuft of setae with shallow depression. Posterior hypopygeal margin straight or nearly so. Genitalia. Harpe wide basally, apical margin rounded, abaxial margin not projected; gonostipes shorter than harpe, ventral margin not excavated until outer margin of basivolsella; digitus short, basidorsal corner poorly projected; basivolsella poorly delimited with narrow protuberance, without spines; aedeagal ventral valve with apex posterior to apex of dorsal one, wide, abruptly narrowing apicad; inner margin straight; outer margin slightly sinuous, slightly curved laterad; aedeagal dorsal valve robust with two pairs of apical lobe; outer lobe long, narrow, apical margin rounded and posterad; apex of inner median filament anterior to apex of lobe, directed posterad; basal cover plate entirely narrow, posterior margin slightly incurved medially; apodeme extending beyond genital ring.

Variations. Tergal process submedian with little tuft of setae, harpe not too wide basally and projection of the basivolsella wider. One specimen from Peru has the mandibular teeth very small so that they are little distinguishable.

Ross collectors, 1♂, 23–IX–1954, 2♂, X–10–1954 ( CASC) .

Distribution. Ecuador, Panama, Peru.

Etymology. This species is named after Mary de Aguiar Silva, the first black woman judge in Brazil.

Remarks. It is similar to D. ritae sp. nov. by having the aedeagal dorsal valve robust, the aedeagal dorsal lobes long, the apex of inner median filament anterior to apex of aedeagal dorsal lobes, and the apex of aedeagal dorsal valve narrow. However, D. maryae sp. nov. has the harpe with dorsal margin incurved anteriorly, the basal cover plate narrow, and the basivolsellar protuberance wide, whereas D. ritae sp. nov. has the harpe with dorsal margin straight, the basal cover plate wide, and the basivolsella protuberance narrow.
