Paraleucothoe novaehollandiae Lowry & Stoddart, 2003: 157 View in CoL .
Type locality and specimens. Port Jackson , New South Wales, 33º51'S 151º16'E. Holotype, sex unknown, 19 mm (reported as 0.75 inch); syntypes (probable), 3 specimens, AM P3471 (according to Springthorpe & Lowry, 1994). GoogleMaps
Material examined. No material available for examination. Diagnosis based on description by Haswell, 1879 and J.L. Barnard, 1972.
Diagnosis (sex unknown). Truncate anterior head margin with anterodistal concavity. Antenna 2 shorter than antenna 1. Gnathopod 1 propodus truncate. Gnathopod 2 carpus short; propodus palm sub-rectangular with four major tubercles. Live specimens are reported as light pink in color.
Note. Barnard (1972) illustrates heavily setose coxae and posterior margins of gnathopod 2 and pereopods 3, 5–6. The type material should be examined for the presence of setae and compared with Barnard’s material to determine if they are the same species.
Female (sexually dimorphic characters). Unknown.
Habitat. Coral mud; 0–15 m.
Host. Ascidian: Pyura spinifera ( Quoy & Gaimard, 1834) .
Distribution. Pacific Ocean: New South Wales, Australia ( Haswell 1879b; Haswell 1882), Torres Strait, Thursday Island ( Miers 1884), Victoria to Perth, Australia (J.L. Barnard 1972).
