Leucothoe traillii Thomson, 1882
Leucothoe traillii Thomson, 1882: 234 , 235, pl. 18, fig. 1. — Stebbing, 1906: 164. — Chilton, 1911: 129, 130. —J.L. Barnard, 1972b: 137, 138, fig. 76.
Leucothoe spinicarpa Chilton, 1923: 88 .
Type locality and specimens. Port Pegasus , New Zealand. Sex unknown, 8.9 mm (reported as 0.35 inch) .
Material examined. No material available for examination. Diagnosis based on description by Thomson (1882).
Diagnosis (sex unknown): Thomson’s original description and illustrations of Leucothoe trailli are vague, doing little more than placing this species in the Leucothoidae . Barnard (1972) illustrates a ventral keel with an anterior cusp and sharp anteroventral projection and suggests that the maxilla 1 palp is lacking a distinct articulation with article 2.
Note. Material used in both descriptions should be examined to determine if they are the same and to clarify diagnostic characters for this species.
Female (sexually dimorphic characters). Unknown.
Habitat. Habitat not reported; 9–45 m (reported as 5–25 fthm).
Host. Unknown.
Distribution. Tasman Sea: Port Pegasus, Paterson Inlet, New Zealand ( Thomson 1882; Stebbing 1906), Morgans Pool, New Zealand (J.L. Barnard 1972b), New Zealand ( Chilton 1911; Chilton 1923).
