Leucothoe grandimana ( Stimpson, 1853)
Leucothoe grandimanus Stimpson, 1853: 51 , 52, fig. 37. — Bate, 1862: 157, 158, pl. 29, fig. 4. — Della Valle, 1893: 856. Leucothoe grandimana Stebbing, 1906: 168 .
Type locality and specimens. Low Duck Island , Grand Manan. Holotype, sex unknown, 11.2 mm (reported as 0.44 inch).
Material examined. No material available for examination. Diagnosis based on description by Stimpson (1853).
Diagnosis (sex unknown): Gnathopod 2 carpus with small subdistal tooth.
Note. Della Vale (1893) listed L. grandimanus as “specie incerte.” Stimpson’s original description of Leucothoe grandimana (as Leucothoe grandimanus ) is vague and at best places the species in the Leucothoidae . He illustrates only gnathopods 1 and 2 with little detail. Subsequent reports provide little detail. Pending examination of type material and topotypic material this should not be considered a valid species.
Female (sexually dimorphic characters). Unknown.
Habitat. Habitat and depth not reported.
Host. Unknown.
Distribution. Atlantic Ocean: Grand Manan, mouth of Bay of Fundy ( Stimpson 1853; Bate 1862; Della Vale 1893; Stebbing 1906).
