Type-species: Cancer articulosus Montagu, 1804 (= Gammarus spinicarpus Abildgaard, 1789 , monotypy).
Diagnosis. Eyes, if present, generally well developed with 10 or more ocelli. Mandibular palp three articulate; right lacinia mobilis smaller than left. Maxilliped outer plates not reaching apex of palp article 1. Coxa 1–4 relatively equal in widths. Pereopods 5–7 bases generally expanded. Minimal to no sexual dimorphism.
Relationships. Differing from Paraleucothoe in the smaller maxilliped outer plates and lack of sexual dimorphism. Differing from Anamixis , Nepanamixis , and Paranamixis in coxa 1 not being reduced, well developed mouthparts, and lack of sexual dimorphism.

Habitat and Distribution. Marine, cosmopolitan, 0–3570 m, in ascidians, sponges, bivalve mollusks, algae, and coral rubble, 100 species.
