( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 )
Felt 1909: 299.
Type material. Lectotype (designated here). Male, Barbados, Clapham, 1908, H.A. Ballou, with note probably by Ballou “Mango. Maggots under bark, no galls.” ( NMNH). Paralectotypes. One male and one female, on separate slides, with the same data as the lectotype.
Remarks. The male paralectotype is better preserved than the lectotype, but its genitalia are still attached to the abdomen and visible in side view only ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). In the lectotype, the genital apparatus is turned to expose the ventral side ( Gagné 1994: fig. 12; this paper, Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ), but the preparation is pale and the aedeagus head is distorted. According to a note by Barnes (1949: 15), other specimens of this species should exist in the Barnes collection in The Natural History Museum, London.
Adult description. Generic characters covered in the description of Asynapta in Jaschhof & Jaschhof (2013) are not repeated here. Male. Head. Eye bridge dorsally 10 ommatidia long. Antenna with 21 flagellomeres. Fourth flagellomere with neck 0.4 × node. Preabdomen. Tergites I–VI present as raised, medially interrupted bands with large setae on posterior margins of segments, tergites II–IV particularly long, with smaller setae even on interjacent portions, segments VII and VIII with short sclerotized rib anteriorly, without setae. Terminalia. Gonocoxites ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ): anterior margin broadly rounded, ventral emargination deep, elongate U-shaped, not clearly contoured at bottom, a setose lobe posteriorly on either side, dorsal portions posteriorly pointed, with several setulae with large sockets (not illustrated). Gonostylus ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ): elongate, slightly club-shaped, an apicomedial swelling bearing a small pectinate claw and 2 bristles. Parameres as in Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 . Female. Head. Antenna with 21 flagellomeres, necks very short. Terminalia. Basicercus twice as long as disticercus, gonocoxite 8 reaching apically to midlength of basicercus. Presence of a sclerotized spermatheca uncertain.
