Cancer cerratonis Curtis, 1944: 29 , n. syn.

Curtiss (1944: 29) wrote “I saw a box crab much like the one described on pages 170 and 171 [ Cancer afata = Calappa hepatica View in CoL ], but more of a whitish yellow, where the other was yellow, and the hinder part of the shell was not olive-colored, but yellow, with a network of brown lines. Also, the rear edge of the upper shell was not sawlike” ( Curtiss 1938: 29). This agrees well with the colouration of young Calappa calappa ( Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL (PKLN, unpublished data).
