Leptostylus neivai Melzer, 1930 View in CoL , reval.
( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 3 – 4 )
Leptostylus neivai Melzer, 1930: 198 View in CoL , pl. 17, fig. 15; Zikán & Wygodzinsky, 1948: 55 (type); Silva, A. G., 1956: 123 (biol.); Silva, A. G. et al., 1968: 403 (hosts); Zajciw, 1974: 73 (distr.); Monné, M. L., et al., 2012: 43, fig. 7 (distr.).
Type locality. Brazil, São Paulo: São Paulo ( Mata do Governo). ( MZSP).
The synonymy between Leptostylus ovalis Bates, 1863 and L. neivai Melzer, 1930 was erroneously proposed by Monné & Hoffmann (1981). The examination of specimens of L. neivai from southeast and south Brazil and Argentina, as well as specimens of L. ovalis from French Guiana, Brazilian Amazon and Bolivia, allow us to revalidate L. neivai .
Leptostylus neivai ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 3 – 4 ) differs from L. ovalis ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3 – 4 ) by the known distribution, the first one distributed in Brazil (from Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul) and Argentina (Misiones), while L. ovalis is known from French Guiana, Brazil, (Pará, Rondônia, Mato Grosso) and Bolivia (Santa Cruz). In L. neivai , the sides of the prothorax do not possess a median obtuse projection and the apical half of the elytra are covered with tawny pubescence, without patches of black pubescence. In L. ovalis , the sides of the prothorax have an obtuse median projection and the apical half of the elytra are covered with grayish pubescence and two anteapical subrounded black patches.
