Cryptophaea Van den Broeck & Ertz View in CoL , gen. nov. ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 )
MycoBank #MB 816627
Genus of cryptothecioid Arthoniaceae similar to genera of Cryptothecia and Herpothallon , but genetically distinct, with a slightly byssoid thallus, tomentose ascomata and small, (sub)muriform ascospores becoming greyish to brown.
Type: — Cryptophaea phaeospora Van den Broeck & Ertz
Etymology: —The first six letters of the name Cryptophaea stress the relationship with cryptotheciod Arthoniaceae . The second part refers to the brown fructifications. Cryptophaea (Hämäläinen) is also a generic name used for insects in the family Euphaeidae . But the nomenclature of algae, fungi, and plants is independent of zoological and bacteriological nomenclature (MCNeil et al. 2012).
