Torrenticola barsica ( Szalay, 1933)

Material examined: IR8 Mazandaran Province, the hygropetric stream near Ramsar (on Javaher deh road, ca. 36° 57’N 49° 49’E), 24ºC, 19.07.2003, leg. Pesic, Asadi, Saboori & Akrami (6/2/0) ; IR11 Mazandaran Province, Ramsar, Safa stream near Gavramak village (ca. 37°14’N 49°9’E), 22ºC, 19.07.2003, leg. Pesic, Asadi, Saboori & Akrami (12/20/0) ; IR47 Tehran Province, Elburs Mt., Sijan stream in Sijan village (under Dareh Bridge , ca. 35°55’17N 51°8’54E), 14.08.2003, leg. Pesic & Saboori (29/26/0) ; IR64 Northern Khorrasan Province, Gojki road to Kalat (ca. 94 km to Kalat , 59º45´E 36º35´N), stream, ca. 1400 m asl., 05.06.2005, leg. Pesic & Saboori (1/7/0).

Remarks: The population from northern side of Elburs Mountain (IR8 Ramsar area) differs from the population from southern side (IR47 Charan stream) in the low P­2/P­4 ratio (1.0–1.06 vs. 1.06–1.10), slightly minor idiosoma dimensions and a slightly longer palp (314–332 vs. 296–312). These differences may suggest that there is some degree of genetic isolation between these populations.

Distribution: E Europe, Mediterranean, Turkey, Iran (new for Iran).
