( Figures 1 View FIGURE 1 c, 2b)

Antenna: flagellum length (0.15 0.014); ratio of length to width of flagellum (6.75 0.74); flagellum length to hind tibial length (0.92 0.05); flagelliform setae long (0.08 0.006), evenly tapering to apex; longest flagelliform setae length to flagellum width (3.41

0.41); basiconic sensilla with formula 12(1)2011; three placoid sensilla, the basal one 0.04 0.011. Forewing: width to length ratio (0.49 0.02); fringe setae length (0.03 0.015); fringe setae length to hind tibial length (0.24 0.03); fringe setae length to forew

ing width (0.17 0.02); 715 setae between the 4th and 5th setal tracks. Hind wing: anterior track with 01 seta; posterior with 58 setae, extending well beyond mid point of middle track. Scutellum: anterior setae short; ratio of anterior to posterior pair (0.18 0.08). Male genitalia: genital capsule longer (0.16 0.006) than wider (0.06 0.005); ratio of the width to length of genital capsule (0.39 0.02); apical distance to genital capsule length (0.21 0.01); apical width to genital capsule width (0.70 0.08); dorsal lamina originating anterior to middle of genital capsule with basal notching; dorsal lamina broad and gradually tapering from base to apex; dorsal lamina length to genital capsule length (0.44 0.03); dorsal lamina length to dorsal lamina width (1.39 0.09); dorsal aperture length to dorsal lamina length (1.28 0.10); posterior extension of the dorsal lamina short (0.05 0.002), with rounded apex and reaching the base of the volsellae; posterior extension of the dorsal lamina length to dorsal lamina length (0.69 0.05); dorsal ridge absent; ventral ridge long (0.07 0.004), extending beyond the midpoint of the genital capsule; ventral ridge length to basal distance (0.52 0.04); basal distance to genital capsule length (0.79 0.01); intervolsellar process very short (0.004 0.002), with apex bifid or pointed; ventral processes broadly separated, near level of base of intervosellar process (0.01 0.002). Quantitative data were obtained from 19 males.

TYPE MATERIAL Holotype male. BRASIL. ALAGOAS: Maceió, April 2000, ex egg of Calpodes ethlius on Canna spp., Iracilda M.M. Lima collr. ( ESALQ). Seventeen paratypes (males) with same data as holotype ( ESALQ). Two paratypes (males) with same data as holotype (UCR).

DIAGNOSIS Trichogramma iracildae is distinguished by the broadly separated and laterally placed ventral processes and the usually bifid intervolsellar process. This character is also observed in T. marthae , but the intervolsellar process is different. Other important characteristics in T. iracildae are the wide genital capsule and the short and apically rounded posterior extension of the dorsal lamina. Samples of T. iracildae were anlysed for ITS2 sequence of the rDNA and the results showed it to be different from that of any other species known previously (Raul P. Almeida, pers. com.).

VARIATION Unsocketed setae present in the first section of the flagellum; basiconic sensilla varying in number in the position 2; setae of the posterior track reaching the apex of the wing; intervolsellar process bifid in 12 of the 19 specimens studied.

ETYMOLOGY The species is named after Professor Iracilda M. M. Lima (UFAL), the collector of the type series.
