Description

FEMALE (n = 10). Body fusiform, 385 (378–392) long, 135 (132–141) wide, 130 (125–132) thick; light yellow in color. Gnathosoma 72 (70–75), projecting downwards. Prodorsal shield 82 (80–85) long, 90 (87–92) wide, sub quadrangular, median line complete, admedian lines incomplete, submedian lines form network anterior. Dorsal tubercles near rear margin, 58 (55–60) apart, scapular setae (sc) 96 (93–99) projecting forwards. Coxal area with granules; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 15 (13–17), proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 45 (41–49), proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 60 (56–63). Sternal line absent. Legs with usual series of setae. Leg I 61 (58–64) long, femur 20 (19–21), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 23 (21–25); genu 8 (7–9) long, antaxial genual setae (l’’) 35 (32–37) long; tibia 20 (19–20), paraxial tibial setae (l’) 7 (6–9), setae located 2/3 from dorsal base; tarsus 9 (9–10) long; tarsal empodium simple, 7­rayed, tarsal solenidion rodlike. Leg II 55 (53–58) long, femur 18 (16–19), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 22 (20–25) long; genu 6 (5–6) long, antaxial genual setae (l’’) 13 (12–15) long; tibia 19 (17–18) long; tarsus 8 (8–9) long; tarsal empodium simple, 7­rayed, tarsal solenidion rodlike. Opisthosoma: dorsal opisthosoma with 33 (32–35) annuli, with filament microtubercles on rear annular margins, ventrally with 117 (111–120) microtuberculate annuli. Setae c2 45 (41–48) on ventral annulus 16 (16–17); setae d 60 (55–69) on ventral annulus 42 (40–43); setae e 45 (40–48) on ventral annulus 65 (62–65), setae f 40 (38–43) on 8th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 9 (7–10). Female genitalia 23 (22–25) long, 34 (32–35) wide, coverflap smooth, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 45 (39–48) long.

MALE (n = 2). 305 (301–310) long, 105 (102–107) wide; genitalia 8 (7–8) long, 30 (29–30) wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 25 (23–28) long.

Types

Holotype, female, China: Shaanxi Province, Mei County, Taibai mountain, 34°01.51’N, 107°48.36’E. September 1, 2004, from Abies fargesii Frnach. (Pinaceae) , coll. Xue, Xiao­Feng & Song, Zi­Wei. Paratypes, 9 females and 2 males, with the same data as the holotype.

Relation to host

Vagrant on leaf surfaces. No damage to the host was observed.

Etymology

Derived from the specific epithet of the type host plant, fargesii .

Remarks

This species is similar to Rhyncaphytoptus amplus Keifer, 1961 , on Acer platanoides L. ( Aceraceae ), but can be differentiated by prodorsal shield with median and admedian lines separate (median and admedian lines connected in R. amplus ), coxal area with
