Lytoneuron (Klotzsch) Yesilyurt, Phytotaxa View in CoL 211(2): 116. 2015 View Cited Treatment .
= Doryopteris sect. Lytoneuron Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 20: 343. 1847.
Lytoneuron View in CoL , recently segregated from Doryopteris View in CoL , comprises 12 species ( Yesilyurt et al. 2015). The species are all in South America, most of them endemic to Brazil; two species are known from Bolivia. Lytoneuron View in CoL is distinguished from Doryopteris View in CoL and Ormopteris View in CoL by having two vascular bundles in the stipes, these uniting distally towards the lamina base. Veins are free in all species except L. ornithopus View in CoL ; vein ends are usually free and form hydathodes , as viewed adaxially.
In phylogenetic analyses, Lytoneuron is sister to Ormopteris , and this combined clade is sister to Doryopteris ( Yesilyurt et al. 2015) . More distant relationships are with Brazilian cheilanthoid ferns, particularly Cheilanthes goyazensis and C. bradei J.Prado & A.R.Sm. , and beyond that with African cheilanthoid species.
