Range: —Southwestern U.S.A. to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), Chile, and Argentina; Antilles.
Ecology: —Very common; terrestrial on open soil banks, rocky slopes, shrubby hillsides, and cliffs in semihumid regions; 1200–3500(–4100) m.
Notes: —Blades 1-pinnate-pinnatifid; segments abaxially with short, matted, whitish hairs that don’t extend beyond the segment margins (creating a contrast between the pale surfaces and the dark margins). This species is most easily confused with Astrolepis sinuata in blade dissection and heavy indument, but that species has the blades abaxially with pectinate or stellate scales rather than matted hairs.
