Ormopteris J.Sm., Hist. Fil. View in CoL 281. 1875.
= Pellaea sect. Ormopteris (J.Sm.) R.M.Tryon & A.F.Tryon, Rhodora 83(833): 135. 1981.
As defined by Yesilyurt et al. (2015), Ormopteris View in CoL comprises five species, all confined to South America, but with only a single species, relatively widespread, in Bolivia. Yesilyurt et al. (2015) provided evidence for Ormopteris View in CoL being sister to Lytoneuron View in CoL , differing from that in having petioles with a single vascular bundle at the base; rhizomes of Ormopteris View in CoL are erect to suberect, and scales are non-clathrate (vs. clathrate in Doryopteris View in CoL ). Leaf blades are 1-pinnate in the Bolivian species, but may be up to 3-pinnate in extraterritorial species. The larger genus Doryopteris View in CoL , under which Ormopteris View in CoL has sometimes been subsumed, is believed to be sister to the combined clade, Ormopteris View in CoL + Lytoneuron ( Yesilyurt et al. 2015) View in CoL . Previously, Ormopteris View in CoL has been treated as a section of Pellaea View in CoL , a genus with much more distant affinities.
