Trachypteris pinnata (Hook.f.) C.Chr., Index Fil. View in CoL 634. 1906.
Range: —Andes from Ecuador to Bolivia ( CH, LP, SC) and northwestern Argentina.
Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in dry forests, mostly in open sites on steep banks or trail edges; 400–1550 m.
Notes: —This cannot be confused with any other Bolivian fern. Geographically somewhat variable.
Pteridaceae subfam. Parkerioideae Burnett (Parkerioid ferns)
A small subfamily of two distinct water-associated genera (this habitat otherwise unknown in Pteridaceae ), and both genera, Acrostichum and Ceratopteris , occur in Bolivia. The constituent species are either rooted in mud or floating aquatics. Spores of Ceratopteris are highly distinctive in the family, as is the unique chromosome base number, x = 39. Ceratopteris also has a rather weakly formed annulus comprising a much larger number of annulus cells, compared to other members of the family.
