9. Craspedophorus lebaudyi Alluaud, 1932 View in CoL

(Plate 3, Fig. 24)

Craspedophorus lebaudyi Alluaud, 1932: 9 View in CoL (type loc. “ Congo ”). Häckel et Farkač 2012: 81.

Note. The original description of this species was based on a single specimen labelled “ Congo (R. Lebaudy, 1909)”. Description (in part, see Alluaud 1932: 9). “Length 22 mm, width 9.5 mm. Black, glossy, elytra with yellow maculae. Pronotum almost hexagonal, wider than long (7x 5 mm), coarsely and randomly punctured, with widely elevated lateral rims, front angles widely rounded, hind angles obtuse and preceded by a minor indentation, base almost straight. Elytra almost parallel-sided, maximum width behind midlength, striae deeply impressed, sparsely punctured; intervals punctured (in three rows), smooth at location of maculae. Each elytron with two groups of yellow maculae; humeral macula quite linear, located in basal fourth, consisting of spots on intervals 4, 6 and 8, each elongated, with very small spot on 7th interval; preapical macula oblique, located in apical fourth, toward suture moving anteriorly in about three fifths, consisting of spots on the same intervals, which are longer than spots in humeral macula, with one spot on 7th interval narrower, shorter and markedly more posterior than the others, and one small spot on 5th interval, at the level of posterior margins of both contiguous spots. Humeri slightly rounded. Antennae with third article three times longer than 2nd (other articles missing). Venter coarsely punctured. It belongs to C. reflexus Hope View in CoL [= C. reflexus Fabricius, 1781 View in CoL ]; similar form with equally shaped pronotum, but with body posteriorly less regularly ovoid; in C. lebaudyi View in CoL body black, more ovoid, and elytral coloration and location of maculae markedly different. Finally, C. lebaudyi View in CoL more resembles C. stanleyi Alluaud, 1930 View in CoL , but its pronotum is markedly wider, with margins more widely elevated posteriorly, the back is shorter, and intervals are less dense and surface less deeply punctured. Hab. - Congo (R. Lebaudy, 1909)...” [translated from French].

The MNHN type could not be located, all that is available is the original description and a supplemental ink drawing (Plate 3, Fig. 24). The described characters place the species in the C. reflexus group near C. carbonarius .

Distribution. Congo. The species was probably collected in the French Congo which comprised the presentday area of the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, and the Central African Republic.
