Type species. Xenosella coxospinosa sp. nov., here designated.
Diagnosis. Xenosellidae without eyes or eyestalks. Coxae with elongate lateral spines. Antennula article 1 elongate, inflated at base. Mandible without palp, molar club–shaped, apically cleft, apices pointed. Male pleopod 1 straight, distally tapering. Uropods distodorsally on pleotelson.
Etymology. The genus name is derived from the Greek xenos, meaning stranger with the diminutive ending –ella, thus the ‘little stranger’.
