Diagnosis. Wing length 1.5–2 mm. Fronto-orbital plate yellowish; pedicel partially yellowish; legs brown, with apex of femur and base of tibia yellow in fore leg; calypter yellowish, fringe white. Aedeagus (Fig. 189 and 190 in Spencer & Stegmaier 1973): basiphallus slightly sclerotized, forming two extensions distally; mesophallus elongated, wide basally; distiphallus short and sclerotized, forming two short tubules covered by one pair of plates.
Host-plants. Verbenaceae— Duranta sp.; Lantana camara L.; Lippia alba (Mill.) ; Lippia micromera Schauer ; Verbena litoralis Kunth.
Distribution. Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint-Martin, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, Venezuela.

Comments. Calycomyza lantanae has a wide distribution, with records of this species across the New World ( Benavent-Corai et al. 2005). Larvae of this species form blotches on the surface of the leaves of host-plants. Calycomyza lantanae is associated with several Verbenaceae species, many of which belong to the genera Duranta L., Lippia L., Lantana L., and Verbena L.
